Digital Piracy

Piracy is a medium where a film or a television serials are made available to the people without even paying for it. Nowadays many sites are operated which daily publishes pirated media regularly in there sites. This sites are mainly Torrent sites which uses magnetic link to download films, TV series etc. As of today we are living in the world of OTT where everything which is streamed online is available for download in those  Torrent Sites.  Some Pirated Website also operate from normal URL’s(Uniform Resource Locator) which are not blocked in the particular region as the name itself not specify anything about the service which they are doing from their websites.

Let us take the case study about a Piracy Website Known as Tamilrockers. This website was first majorly formed in 2011 in which they pirate or record big Tamil heroes film which are released in theatre.  Many big hero films are subject to piracy which are suspected to be done by the infamous Tamilrockers. Later they also pirated tv series, web series, Hollywood movies in original audio and in dubbed format. Download format in the site is mainly in Torrent files which are generally magnetic links  and are used with particular software known as Torrent Downloading Software. Some names of these software are Bit Torrent, Utorrent etc. In 2020, Tamilrockers was ranked in Top 10 Torrent Sites in India.

The torrent sites are most popular as it has everything whether it is movies, film, software  etc. each and everything is available for its user for  download. Torrent Sites are blocked in many countries but are accessed through VPN’s (Virtual Private Network).  Wide Popularity of these sites have been increasing day by day as it provide free content which is most values by its user.

Piracy is done for everything which is available online so it is up-to us we have to really depend on it or not . Majorly piracy is done for financial gains of copyright content which is some other’s Intellectual Property. As in another word some others make some thing and another will copy it  and distribute them in free. It will also give them first mover’s advantage.  So, Piracy is termed illegal but is still going on with one or more ways.
