Maha Shivratri

Maha Shivratri is an Hindu festival celebrated in the honour of Lord Shiva who is also part of Trideva’s in Hinduism. This Festival Plays an important role in our culture, religion in India. Mahashiv or Lord Shiv is known as the Destroyer of the world as in Hinduism Yuga’s are being divided into 4 parts i.e. Satyug, Tretayug, Dwaparyug and Kalyug and after completion these four yuga’s whole universe is destroyed by Lord Shiva and the cycle repeats . These festival holds close to the hearts as in this day Fasting, prayers are done for whole day . This festival holds great deal in Shaivism which refers to a group of people who worships Lord Shiva only.

According to the Legend some say in this day Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati(A form of Adishakti) married on this day and so on as there are many stories regarding it. It falls under the day of Phalguna Krishna Chaturdashi in Hindu Calender which is very auspicious. Every Year it falls under the first three months in the start of the year. This year it was on 26 February 2025 and Mahakumbh was also ending on this day so it becomes much more important  day this year.

Lord Shiva is worshiped in the form of Shivling’s  and famously 12 Jyothirlinga’s are worshiped which are located in all across India and all are worshiped in this day are as follows:-

This 12 Linga’s are body and Pashupatinath Jyothirlinga is called the head located in Nepal. Mahadeva or Lord Shiva is known for detachment proof as he shows how to be detach from attachment but also being attached to  things. He is also known as AdiYogi , Natraj, Sundareshwar etc. Names are many but devotion remains the same.
