Durga Puja or Navaratri Starts from today

Durga Puja or Navratri which is an annual festival celebrated all across India. The festival has very much importance both culturally and socially. Goddess Durga killed the shape shifting demon Mahishasura, so, it is also marked as victory of Good over evil. This puja demonstrates the varied culture of India as it celebrates Shaktism in Hinduism of India.  Durga puja is celebrated in every house and also publicly by making Pandals. It demonstrates the coming of Goddess Durga to her Natal Home. It is celebrated for nine days and the tenth day is Vijay Dashami or Dashami which marks the return of Goddess Durga to the cosmos i.e. Lord Shiva’s House who is also husband of Goddess Durga.

The Name “Navratri” also symbolizes the nine-day Aaradhna for Durga Puja as justified by the name itself.  The Navratri also symbolizes that each day Nav Durga or nine manifestations of Nav Durga are worshipped namely Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmacharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandamata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri .

Durga Puja is set to begin from 3rd October 2024 and in 2nd October 2024 we have Mahalaya Puja on that Day and also Pitra Paksha is also ending on 2nd October 2024. Every regions of India celebrates Durga Puja and has different name for it.
